12/22/11 by rd: "Don't even waste your time with these!"

Pros: They are contacts.

Cons: They give me blurry vision due to opaque spots.

Has been wearing Acuvue Advance: 12 Years, 7 days/week, 15 hours/day

Cleaning solution used: ReNu

Replaces contacts every: 14 Days

I am so glad to read reviews form others that these do in fact leave opaque spots on the lenses that do not come off. Some times this happened the first day of wear. What a waste of money, these are nor cheap and something should be done to improve these contacts because right now they are a joke. I am so fed up with this brand, I feel like they are stealing from me.

I have used the Acuvue 2 lens for several years and liked them a lot. My Dr suggested I switch to the Advance and these are terrible. I have gone through them twice as fast. This last set I wore for less than 24 hours and already getting blurry spots. NEVER have I been able to wear them 2 weeks as I used to be able to do with Acuvue 2. I am am going back to the less expensive model. They work much better.

Worst contacts I ever worn. Uncomfortable, even when wearing a brand new pair. Will never buy this brand again and will do my own research and not take an eye doctor's word for it (they're obviously getting kickbacks).

I have been wearing contact lenses more than 10 years and I tried to use Acuvue Advance around a year for the good price. But the quality was unstable constantly. I suppose I can use each lens for 2 weeks time or at least 1 week. But a few of them just couldn't least for a hour or a day. I will not use this one anymore as I would rather pay a bit more for more comfortable lenses.

Cons: blurry, hard to clean, gritty, irritating

Has been wearing Acuvue Advance: 3 Years, 6 days/week, 5 hours/day

Cleaning solution used: Vizualize

I have worn these contact lenses the whole three years I have needed them. I wear 2 weeklys so should last me 3 months per box, yet the past 4 months, I have had 3 sets because they havent lasted more than 3 days each. They get blurry, opague marks on them that do not clean, and lots of deposits. I used to love these lenses, now I really want to change but can't really afford different ones. I'm so annoyed!!!! As a student I cant afford ᆪ90 every 3 months!!!

I started wearing contacts over 20 years ago. I stopped 10 years ago when I had my first child. Now that I have had my last child I have the time again for contacts. I went for a contact exam and they offered Softmed 55's. By noon after putting them in at 7am they were horribly dry and scratchy, so back to switch out. Then tried Avaira's , worked great but wouldn't come out of my eyes. Finally optometrist gave me Acuvue Oasys. I thought great no more dry eyes. Well that's right just blurry vision after 15 minutes and I have to wear my glasses to read. Horrible experience. Next they want me to try Air Optix or Proclear, both extremely expensive. Hope something works out soon....

Cons: scratchy feeling in the eyes after a week

Cleaning solution used: Optifree

I liked these lenses for the first week, they feel more comfortable when you blink compared to Acuvue 2s. But after a week or so, the lenses start to feel scratchy in your eye.. you can feel the lens in there and they're no longer comfortable. I also noticed after about 4 days of use, the shape of the lens changed and became very irregular, not sure why this is. It never happened with my old lenses. Also, the optometrist told me I have to use Optifree solution with these lenses and no other brand should be used. This solution costs $10 a bottle. I'm glad I got an RX for the regular Acuvue 2's because I'll be ordering those instead.

10/15/10 by plugh: "Has Acuvue Advance changed since last year or so?"

Pros: Relatively high oxygen permeability

Cons: Difficult to clean

Cleaning solution used: Clear Care

Last year I was wearing Acuvue Advance +3.25 and +1.75 lenses (monovision) and there was no problem. I would highly recommend them. This year my prescription changed to +3.50 and +2.00. The sample given to me seemed to be fine so I obtained a one-year supply. Now my vision is constantly blurry while wearing the lenses because there is a central semi-opaque spot on the lens that accumulates eye makeup and the makeup is almost impossible to remove from that spot. If I go back to the lenses from my previous prescription, this problem does not occur. Have the lenses changed?

I wore Focus 1-2 week lenses from the time I got contacts (at age 12) and for a about a decade after. I loved them, or at least had zero complaints about them. And my eyes were always is pristine health at every optometrist exam. A few years ago my optometrist told me I was wearing a dinosaur for contact lenses and that perhaps it was time to upgrade to a newer technology. I switched to Acuvue and have tried both Advance and Oasys. The past few years I have been going into the eye doctor thinking something is wrong with my eyes. They're irritated, dry, scratchy, I have terrible headaches, and it feels like my contacts are thick and gooey. My vision is terrible despite the doctor saying it hasn't changes in years! It finally clicked that maybe my eyes aren't the problem and my contacts are! I will be switching my lenses this week and will never look back.

9/29/10 by milkbottles: "protein deposit central"

Pros: immensely comfortable, best ever had

Cons: protein deposits after a few days, blurred vision

Has been wearing Acuvue Advance: 2 Years, 7 days/week, 16 hours/day

Cleaning solution used: cant remember, supplied by optician

Replaces contacts every: 15 Days

Im glad I read these reviews as I was wondering if i had an eye infection. It appears probably not. Been wearing contacts for 23 years, these particular ones for probably just over 2 years. i have very bad eyesight so cannot go without lenses. Dont want to wear glasses as theyre a bit embarrassing due to thickness, even with all the new technology! At first these were the best lenses Ive ever had, immensely comfortable, my saviour! But a year or so ago things started to change. Now my eyes sometimes get a bit mucusey, and bit runny, and then blurry. Ive now got real problems with protein deposits ruining my vision after only a few days wear. They wont clean off once they are there. This gives me eye strain and headaches. Have to keep rubbing my eyes. I thought it was mild infections I was getting (NEVER ever had an infection ever before) but i think its these lenses after reading these reviews!

5/24/10 by Al: "FYI for Dissatisfied Users of Oasys"

Pros: Can sleep in them

Cons: Don't work for everyone

Has been wearing Acuvue Advance: 0 Month, 7 days/week, 18 hours/day

Replaces contacts every: 1 Month

I have worn the same kind of lenses for the past 10 years or so but have been having more and more trouble with falling asleep before I take them out. Since my eyes have been getting really irritated by this (contacts cut off the oxygen to the eye), my doctor gave me a sample pair of the oasys ones. I have tried ones you could sleep in before and had many of the same issues I saw here- basically it looks like pinkeye or at the least, extremely irritated, bloodshot eyes, but if you're having this and you keep changing your contacts and it's not better then you are most likely ALLERGIC TO THE CONTACT ITSELF! These "better" contacts that allow for more air-flow do so because they are made of silicone, but your eye can be allergic to it and give these symptoms. You need to go back to your eye dr and get a new kind (and if they actually charge you for finding a new kind, esp. due to an allergic reaction, you really need to find a new dr!) I'm trying the oasys for a few more days, but am still having periods of very blurry/cloudy vision so I'm not sure how much longer I'll last! Just wanted to share about the allergies as it was something I nor my dr thought of at first, but knowing that info has made a world of difference!

on Thursday my optometrist gave me a trial set of Acuvue Oasys to wear. On Friday they felt great for about half a day, then I started to get a small irritation in my right eye only. I removed them Friday night, and when I woke up on Saturday morning, my right eye was crusted with mucus. I didn't put the cause on the new lenses at that time. At noon on Sat I put a fresh set of lenses in and throughout the day my right eye was dry, and several times I had to blink blurriness away. I took them out 5 hrs later and my right eye keeps tearing up. Back to Acuvue 2's for me!

Started wearing Acuvue Advance in January of 2009. I had been wearing plain Acuvue for 12 years and LOVED them. They were being discontinued plus I had a bit of dry eye so I thought to give Advance a try. Advance felt like i had grit in my eyes the whole time. I could only wear the lenses for 4 days or so and then needed to start a new pair due to gritty awful feeling. I started wearing my glasses 80% of the time just because I couldn't stand the lenses. A friend of mine also tried Advance and she felt like she had sand/glass in her eyes and switched to Oaysis which she loves. After a year I gave up on Advance and just started wearing Acuvue 2. They are amazing! What a change!

I have been wearing these contacts for about 4 years and never had any problems until recently. About 3 months ago I got an eye infection which we thought was do to allergies. My eyes became very red, irritated, scratchy, and painful whenever I tried to wear my contacts. My doctor switched me to ones that you throw out everday which I loved. Last month I could not afford them so I switched back to my prior type and within a week my eyes were back to being irritated again. My dad wears the same kind and also started having issues about 2-3 months ago.

I have worn Acuvue 2 lenses for 10 years and decided I should step up the quality of lens after seeing progressively drier eyes. When I received my Acuvue Advanced, I had no problem with my left eye but the right eye felt no improvement, like there was no vision correction to the contact. I gave it a few hours and my vision got blurry. Thinking I had a problem with my eye, I placed the lens from my right eye into my left eye (different prescription but very close). My left eye was blurred, proving it was the contact. My opthamologist suggested I send them back to the online vendor and contact Johnson and Johnson about defective lenses. To date, VisionDirect has refunded all the money from the unopened boxes I sent back, I am still waiting for Johnson and Johnson to refund me for the opened boxes. For any of you that still have these contacts, go to J&Js website and find "money back guarantee" before 90 days is up. My dr gave me samples of Acuvue Oasys and I have worn them everyday for the past week and have YET to have the dryness I felt with the Acuvue 2. Too bad Acuvue doesn't have a quality lens in price between the Acuvue 2 and Oasys, but I think the extra money will be worth it.

I used Acuvue for 3 years with no problems... My doctor switched me to Acuvue Oasys for better comfort. With these lenses, the first few days I wear them, they get dirty and blur my vision within a few minutes. As I type this, one eye is so blurry I can barely see, despite having cleaned them 5 minutes ago. After wearing them for a few days, the blurriness stops happening (the contacts stop getting dirty?). When it first happened, I thought there was something wrong with my eyes! It is awful, but it is also a relief to know I'm not the only one having this issue.

I ahve worn contacts for years. Last year my doctor recommended Acuvue Advance lens. At first, they worked fine. I could wear them all day and change them every two weeks or so. Suddenly, they began to blur after only a day or so. I have tried everything to no avail. As quickly as I use what's left of my lens, I am switching to another brand. At a few days wearing, that won't be long.

I don't like these contacts at all. After only a few days I get blurred vision due to protein deposits. I used to wear Acuvue 2 but my doc wanted me to try these new advance ones. I tried changing solutions, rubbing them more in hope to clean them better but nothing helped. I even bought enzyme removal tablets which didn't help either. For five years I used Freshlook colorblends and then switched to Acuvue 2 which I liked a lot for their comfort.

I was an Acuvue wearer who was told I should switch to Acuvue Advance as they were better for the eyes. I never had problems with the plain old Acuvues and loved them, so I did not forsee any problems. I had nothing but with Acuvue Advance. I was never able to wear them all day. They always felt dry and uncomfortable. I suffered through a year of wearing them. At my next eye exam, I switched to Acuvue 2, and have been happy ever since. I had nothing but problems with the Advance and would never recommend them to anyone.

I have been wearing contacts for 18 years. This is my first tiem using this contact. I have had eye issues for the 5 months I've been using them. They are flimsy and do not keep their shape. I have eye goop, discharge and constant tearing with this contact. I thought these symptoms were due to eye rubbing, dirty hands, germs, etc but for the last 2 months I have been a complete neat/clean freak and the same response. I change the contacts every month, I do not sleep in them and clean them before and after waering them. I have also cleaned my case all to no avial. This product is not good!

They are very average lenses. I thought the hydraclear would make some significant difference, but they were the same as the Acuvue 2 or regular Acuvues. After a long day of wear, they would get stuck to my eyes, and become uncomfortably dry. My eyes were slightly red by the end of the day, every day. I am looking now for better contacts that reduce dryness and allow more oxygen flow.

Although these contacts are initially very comfortable, they deteriorate before their two week wear time is up. Every single one I have worn has gotten "nicks" in the edges within about one week of putting them in, causing irritation and great discomfort. At first I thought I must have been damaging them myself, even though I have been wearing contacts for 25 years and have never damaged one before. After about the third or fourth pair I knew it was not me. It starts out small and barely visible and then gets bigger, so at first I kept wearing them thinking it must have just been allergies. Now, I have to change them before I make it to one week so therefore I will be paying twice as much for them as I should have if I was able to change them every two weeks. Obviously, I will not be getting these again after I have used them all.

I've worn soft contacts for almost 20 years. My optometrist strongly recommended these lenses, so I tried them. This is the worst experience I've ever had with contacts! Only a couple of hours after I put them in, it feels like an eyelash is behind the lens. My vision gets blurry, my eyes water and get dry, and the lenses pop out with no warning. The lenses rip easily - when I picked them out of the lens basket and when I was wearing them! They don't last anywhere near the two weeks the box says. More like 2-7 days. I can see mucous-y protein deposits on them by this time.

I have been wearing Acuvue lenses for many years and I had pain in my eyes. I complained it to my doctor but my doctor didn't think it has anything to do with the contact lenses and just didn't know what it was. My pain went away when I switched to Proclear but I still wasn't sure whether is was contact lenses related until I tried Acuvue Oasis during a new contact lense fitting. The pain came back! During the fitting period I tried several brands and I would always get eye strains and pain in my eyes when I wear Acuvue lenses so I concluded all Acuvue lenses are not suitable for me. Other than that, it seems to provide good vision. This fitting experience also taught me that you really have to try a lens and find out whether it works for you or not. Other people's experience may or may not apply to you so find a doctor who will let you try various brands for comparison. And then you judge for yourself.

I've worn contacts for about 15 years and never had a problem with any brand of lens. Upon my optometrists rigorous recommendation, I switched to Acuvue Advanced even though it was significantly more expensive. I've been utterly disappointed--there is no rhyme or reason to when my lenses have a crisp focus or when they go blurry. I assumed maybe it was just a bad fit, so I returned for a follow-up visit--nope, he said they fit perfectly. Hm, then I started reading all the complaints people have about blurred vision with the Advanced lenses--I'll never buy these again. When stored over night, I've noticed they tend to roll so that in the morning they have sharp creases at the midline of the lens; just yesterday, I had a tear in the corner of one of them after just one week of wear. Argh. I can't wait to finish the box and switch to a new brand so I can start seeing clearly again!

I just switched to these lenses and I'm going through them so fast. I try to wait for 30 days, but sometimes I have to switch lenses after only 2 weeks because my vision is so badly blurred. They accumulate protein deposits which cause the blurred vision and they are uncomfortable after only a few days of wearing them, you can start to FEEL them in your eye. I used to change my disposables every 3 months (even though they were 2 week disposables) and I was never bothered by them. This brand however, you NEED to change them every 2-4 weeks or they become really uncomfortable. I'll be switching brands once I use up all the ones I purchased.

It felt like something was in my eye. After inspecting the lens that was bothering me I noted that there was a small cut/piece of the lens missing on the side. My most recent pair lasted only a week, I inspected them but did not see anything, but they were hazy and they didn't feel good. I bought another box of them thinking also, as someone else mentioned, that I had a bad batch. Same thing happened. I gave them a good review because they enable me not to wear my glasses and I'm not sure that I can wear any another lenses. They feel great the first week or so. That's the reason that I have been changing lenses in the first place. a year ago when I first came across this J&J Advance contact lenses. Judging from the advertisement and technical information, I assume that this would be the dream lenses I have been looking for. But after a year of patient trial given to this brand of lenses, I have to give it a thumbs down for its under-average performance-it dries my eyes out very quickly, and it causes discomfort to my eyes too. I have worn different brand lenses in each eye for about 7 years, thanks to an innovative optomotrist that would rather correct vision using lens fit rather than cranking up the prescription. Thanks to my insurance, I now get to go to a "big box" chain who cares more about selling lenses than quality eye care. I wore Acuvue2 in my right eye and Focus in my left. Very comfortable, no change in prescrip. in 7 years. This year I was told that "big box" could no longer get the Focus, so I needed to change. The Acuvue advance were new, great, and just what I needed. I have been wearing the Advance for 3 weeks. I complained about them after my initial fitting, but they said it was probably just a bad pair. I've gone through 4 pairs in 3 weeks. They're uncomfortable, make my eyes itch and give me a headache. My mother was fed the same line from "big box" and had the same issues. The optician told her that they have been having issues with this particular lens because of the silicone. "Big box" wouldn't write me a script for my old lenses because THEY didn't carry them anymore -- not because they were no longer available. Now I need to pay another $65 for another prescription and they still won't write me a script for the old ones. These may be comfy for some, but if you're sensitive to silicone, they're absolute garbage.

When i first started wear the Advance it was only on the weekends for 6 hours because i worked with chemicals during the weekday. But when i changed jobs and started wearing them everyday for 10 hours a day i have had nothing but problems. So, I started replacing my contacts about once a month then every three weeks then 2 and now it's once a week. Over a course of time my contacts would develope a haze or rough edges. I contacted my Eye Doctor many of times regarding this and have purchased new contacts in hopes that it was bad batch. And even threw out bottles of solutions. Well i don't think that was the problem. I use to work in a eye health care profession and i know how important it is to be clean when handling contacts and i made sure i did that each time. But for strange reason i keep having the samething happening over and over again.

I was very disappointed in these contacts. They make my eyes scratchy and red after only a few hours.

1/11/07 by JenJen: "Comfortable, but not Crisp"

Pros: Comfort is exceptional.

Cons: Lenses become blurry easily.

Has been wearing Acuvue Advance: 0 Year, 7 days/week, 12 hours/day

Cleaning solution used: Opticlear

I made the jump from my old Boston rigid gas permeable lenses to soft lenses for the first time, and Acuvue Advance is what my optometrist suggested. I couldn't be happier about the comfort of this lens. It's the first soft lens I've ever tried, so I don't have a base of comparison, but I couldn't ever go back to RGP lenses again. I can wear them for twelve hours straight, and they're still comfortable. However, the vision correction in this lens (and maybe all soft lenses, for an RGP wearer) isn't perfect. For some reason, with these lenses, sometimes my vision is crystal clear and I'm amazed at the sharpness, but other times things are a bit blurrier than I would like. I've had the lenses for two months, and so far, I'd trade the comfort for the ultra-crispness.

I have worn contacts for over 20 years and Surevue disposable ones for over 12 years with no problems. After switching to the silicon hydro gel contacts I have had nothing but problems.

6/28/06 by tlfeher: "Nothing but irritation"

Pros: feel great the first day you put them in

Cons: feel like jagged edges after only a week; itchy eyes as well

Has been wearing Acuvue Advance: 2 Months, 7 days/week, 14 hours/day

Cleaning solution used: Clear Care

Replaces contacts every: 7 Days

I have always worn a yearly soft contact (Cibasoft Standard Visitint) and thought I'd try a disposable. My doc recommended these and they feel awesome the very first day you put them in- super soft, moist, etc. But ever since I've had them, they do not even last the minimum 2 weeks before I have to put the new ones in. And when I take them out at night, my eyes itch. It almost feels like edges get frayed or something, but of course, nothing is visible to the naked eye upon inspection.

4/06/06 by Kevin Sydney: "Silicon hydrogel says goodbye to dry uncomfortable lenses"

Pros: moist, feel like wear nothing

Cons: bit expensive, too soft

Cleaning solution used: Ciba Vision Solo Solution

Replaces contacts every: 21 Days

Now that I can wear my contact lens for whole day long PLUS without even using a drop of eyes lubricant. My eyes have a very high myopy power and a bit of astigmatism. I have 13 years of history wearing lenses that with each passing days getting more uncomfortable. Not so with Acuvue Advance. From day 1 till 3 weeks after that (a week more than the recommended lenses change), I do not have any complaints. No red eyes, no irritation, no dry up, no getting blury. The lenses are felt so light, clear and easy to manage. Highly recommended. Try a box.

Pros: Long lasting and Moist

Cons: Vision still goes bad over time

Has been wearing Acuvue Advance: 2 Years, 7 days/week, 15 hours/day

Cleaning solution used: Renu Multipurpose No-Rub

Replaces contacts every: 14 Days

I've been wearing these lenses for a while now. They're generally very comfortable and given me better vision than I've ever had with other lenses. But, I'm not sure if it's just because my vision has gotten significantly worse over the years, but the images aren't as crisp as I would like it to be. I have moments of perfect clarity but usually have a bit of fuzziness. Recently I had tried the Acuvue Oasys but that turned out to be worse for me than this so I'm sticking to it. ^_^

Pros: The blue color made them easy to see.

Cons: Irritated my eyes.

I have very dry eyes. I have tried to give the Acuvue Advance lenses a chance. But I found that they also irritated my eyes. My doctor gave me the O2Optix lenses the same day she gave me the Acuvue lenses. The 02Opix lenses, for me, are much more comfortable without any irritation. I love them.

Cons: Other lenses i couldnt wear for long time w/out them hurting

Has been wearing Acuvue Advance: 2 Months, 7 days/week, 15 hours/day

When I was using other contacts I had to take them out after 9 hours because they would dry my eyes out. With Acuvue Advance with Hydroclear my eyes stay moist for a long period of time, more than my old ones. Now i can keep my contacts in until i go to bed. Its amazing how good they work. Im very happy i changed to Acuvue Advance with Hydroclear contacts.

5/21/05 by Joe: "Most comfortable contacts"

Pros: No irritation whatsoever

Cons: Just have to pay a little more than regular contacts

Has been wearing Acuvue Advance: 2 Months, 7 days/week, 18 hours/day

Cleaning solution used: AMO* Complete Moisture Plus no rub Multi-purpose solution

Replaces contacts every: 21 Days

I have been using these contacts for about 2 months. At first i was skeptical and figured that all contact lens must hurt somehow. However, I was proved wrong. You can wear these contacts all day without the bothersome irritation you eyes get from long term wear of contacts. These must be the best brand of contacts out there. I would recommend these for anyone with sensitive eyes.
