1-Day Acuvue 30 pack Reviews
8/27/10 by Maggie: "TRY Clear Care Solution! Normal MPS does NOT work!!"Pros: Supposedly better for your eyes Cons: Itchy, foggy--UNTIL I switched solutions Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 2 Years, 7 days/week, 10 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Clear Care Replaces contacts every: 14 Days I have worn these lenses for over 2 years. At first, they weren't so bad, but after a bit they started fogging up and getting incredibly itchy and irritated after just a couple hours in my eyes. I felt half asleep all day just because I couldn't keep my eyes from watering, itching, burning...even after I took my contacts out at night I'd have bad burning in my eyes. Stupidly, I just blamed it on the dry climate and thought I had to live with it. NO! There is a solution! My eye doctor never told me all this (looks like most don't, judging by these reviews), and if it's just because they get paid to talk up certain brands, that's practically malpractice, it seems to me...but that's for another day. So I looked around a ton, and here's what I found (disclaimer: I am not a doctor/scientist/whatever. I just found this stuff through reviews and articles on the internet, but it worked for me!). Oasys, and a few other contacts, are a completely different material than most lenses. They are supposed to be better for your eye because they let more oxygen through (I have a very high prescription, so it's highly advised for me to wear these as others are too thick--otherwise I would have chucked them in the garbage). This different material can cause problems, though. Some people are straight up allergic to it, but it seems like that's not that common. Much more common is a reaction to the solution you're using. Oasys are also much more permeable, so any impurities get soaked up by them and then are in your eyes. Normal Multipurpose Solution has tons of chemicals and especially preservatives that can be really irritating to the eyes--seems that people can have reactions ranging from slight irritation to bad allergic reactions. Oasys just soak the preservatives and chemicals right up and plaster them to your eyes. Enter hydrogen peroxide solutions (Clear Care is the one I've used so far, and there might be others). This solution does not have preservatives, and cleans with hydrogen peroxide (Con: it will seriously hurt your eyes if you don't follow the directions-read the label!!). This means there are no chemicals soaked up by your contacts. Combine that with trying to not use eye drops with preservatives, and much of the irritation will probably be gone. (Heard about Blink Contacts eye drops in another review and they're pretty good). I decided to give it a try, so started on Clear Care, and it was like a miracle. I wasn't expecting that much, but all of a sudden, I wasn't wanting to scratch my eyes out by lunchtime, and I no longer had the horrible burning by the end of the day. They actually felt pretty good!! I've been using Clear Care for a few weeks now, and so far, so good. My contacts haven't felt this good in years. I can't believe I didn't figure it out sooner and am seriously annoyed at my eye doctor for not mentioning that something like this might help when I complained of irritated eyes. I still gave these contacts relatively low reviews because I still don't think they're quite as comfortable as some others, but the health benefits of them are supposedly pretty impressive, so I'd like to continue using them. I hope my experience can help someone--this solution might be a little pricier than store brand MPS, but it is so worth it to have my eyes feel normal again.
8/19/10 by Laura: "horrible contacts"Pros: none Cons: hard to put in eye, blurry peripheral vision, irritates eyes Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 0 Month, 4 days/week, 8 hours/day Cleaning solution used: optifree replenish Replaces contacts every: 1 Month I agree with everyone's reviews in saying these contacts are HORRENDOUS! I wore contacts at least 4 yrs ago and decided to get them again. Contacts I've worn previously weren't nearly as bad as these! I'm testing a pair so I've only worn Oasys for 2 days, but I am going back to my optometrist and demanding another brand. My eyes are pink and irritable-looking with my peripheral vision blurry most of the time. DON'T GET THESE!
5/19/10 by Cloudy: "Cloudy with a chance of blindness"Pros: intial comfort, price, accessibility Cons: cloudy deposits, discomfort, irritation, annoyance, waste Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 2 Years, 5 days/week, 12 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Renu no rub multipurpose solution Replaces contacts every: 2 Months Upon receiving my latest eye exam, I was given the introduction to thes life altering contacts (that's the way the optometrist described them). "They let in more oxygen to the eye, keeping it healthy". Or something to that effect. I now believe that it was one of the very few contacts that they offered and that they were probably convinced by the makers to take one their product. ANYWAY, I was told that I could make each pair stretch 2 months. After about 4 weeks however, the crisp clear colors that were at once so inviting, were replaced with an irritating scratchiness and visible cloudy deposits. I stopped in to talk to another optometrist about this and they had never heard of this happening. I was a phenomenon. She did however point out that they only recommend that the contact be worn for 1 month. After switching to 1 month, I came to the conclusion that I must be a phenomenon...the deposits and irritation still came at about the same 3 week period. I changed solutions ( was told that could be the problem, too) and that did not solve the problem. Now I notice that the contacts say 1-2 weeks. Is that because they have found how irritating these contacts become after extended wear? Were they always for this length of time and I was given misinformation? I am now seaching for a new brand of contacts with fewer bells and whistles and more comfort. You know, I never had these problems when I first started wearing contacts and they were changed on a yearly basis!
5/10/10 by AnthonyM: "Highly recommend 1-Day Acuvue"Pros: Comfortable and easy to handle Cons: None (for me) Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 10 Years, 7 days/week, 23 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Alcon (only when necessary) Replaces contacts every: 1 Day I've been wearing 1-Day Acuvue for years now and have no intention of switching to any other brand. I love the concept of wearing a fresh pair of lenses daily.
4/13/10 by mscrystal1: "Better but not Perfect"Pros: Thick, easy to put in and better night vision Cons: Hard to remove Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 1 Month, 7 days/week, 17 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Aquify Replaces contacts every: 1 Month I used to just deal with my asigmatism because I wanted to wear colored contacts. I wore acuvue colors for 10 years and when my vision at night got too bad I switched to Acuvue Advance last month. I can see better but sometimes after 10 to 12 hours they get a little cloudy. They go in a lot easier than the colors but they are very hard to get out after my 17 hour days. I think the Aquify solution helps add moisture and make them more comfortable. I have had this pair for 1 month as of this week and they are still working fine.
3/19/10 by Lori: "Best vision quality"Pros: Crystal clear vision, durable, affordable Cons: Thicker lens takes getting used to Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 3 Years, 7 days/week, 8 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Aosept ClearCare Replaces contacts every: 2 Months My vision is -10.50 and there's only a few contacts that come in my strength. PureVision is the BEST of the ones I have tried. By far! I love them! My vision is better than 20/20 with these contacts:) These are the ones I have tried: Accuvue 2, Accuvue Oasys, Focus, Pro Clear and Cibasoft. I had blurry vision and uncomfortable wear with four of them and the fifth didn't come in my strength anymore. I wore them all for 6 months to 20 years. The only drawback to PureVision is that they took a couple weeks to get used to the feel of them. It wasn't uncomfortable, just awkward feeling initially. The contacts are thicker than any I have worn before. One weird good thing that I think is related to their thickness, I have never ripped them and I've never gotten an eyelash underneath them! In 3 years! It was a weekly occurrence during the 30 years I wore the other brands of contacts:) I was constantly having to take my old ones out because something had gotten underneath it and was scratching my eye. They are approved for 30 days of 24 hr/continuous wear. I wear mine @8 hours a day so mine last 60-70 days. This also make them one of the most affordable and cheapest contacts on the market for me. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone. The visual clarity is miraculous!! They are the only contact lens that give me 100% pristine clear vision like my eye-glasses do. I've been wearing them now for 3 years and plan on never changing to another contact. Please give them a try! You'll notice on Day 1 how wonderful the vision is and just give your eyes a couple weeks to adjust to the feel of them. After that, you won't notice them anymore but you will notice how startling crisp your vision is=) Lori
1/22/10 by jennw2002: "Garbage"Pros: None Cons: Everything I can think of Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 1 Year, 7 days/week, 12 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Opti-Free RepleniSH Replaces contacts every: 14 Days Today was probably my final straw for these contacts. About a month after I started wearing them, they would irritate my eyes by about mid-day. After rewetting them, they'd be fine for a few more hours. I can't even tell you how much solution I go through. Even though my solution that I store them in overnight is no-rub, I still end up having to rub them clean. They always have a film over them and they're like cement to get out of your eye at night. I constantly wake up with "goop" as well. After about a week of wearing them (even though they're 2 week disposables, they start getting rigid and lose their perfect roundness. I always feel like there's something in my eyes and find my self constantly rubbing. It's rediculous! Today though... ooh today. I woke up feeling like my eye was scratched so I went and had the doctor examine it. He said that the contact was depriving my eye of oxygen (tight lens syndrome). I ended up with an infection because of this. I am using the rest of what I have and switching to a new brand as soon as possible.
10/30/09 by vwterry: "so thin that they are difficult to handle"Pros: comfortable Cons: very hard to handle; easily turned inside out or torn Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 1 Month, 7 days/week, 18 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Clear Care or AOSept Replaces contacts every: 1 Month For many years, I wore CooperVision CV 43 FW (flexible wear). I have been told I have a "steep cornea," and many standard contact lenses are uncomfortable for me and/or make my eyes painfully sensitive to sunlight. The CooperVision flexible wear lenses were thin enough to be comfortable, but thick enough to be easily handled. One pair lasted me at least a year. (I cleaned them nightly and used an enzyme cleaner once a week.) Now, in my late 40s, single vision lenses don't work for me. I tried Baucsh and Lomb Purevision Multifocal, and found them uncomfortable after about 8 hours, and my eyes were overly sensitive to sunlight when I was wearing them. I explained the problem to my eye doctor, and she fitted me with Acuvue Bifocal lenses. I am getting decent vision correction with Acuvue Bifocal. I still need reading glasses for reading in low light, but I can read most things when lighting is good, and the lenses definitely take care of medium-range (3-4 feet) correction. (My motivation for not going with single-vision lenses and reading glasses is that I was no longer seeing clearly in the 3-4 foot range with single-vision contacts.) With Acuvue Bifocals, my vision also seem a bit prone to cloudiness, maybe because the lens is actually folding in on itself while I'm wearing it. I sometimes have to remove the lens and reinsert to get rid of the cloudiness, much more often than I ever had to do with my beloved CooperVision lenses. Acuvue Bifocal lenses are MUCH thinner than the B&L multifocals, but so thin that they are very difficult to handle. If you put a lens on your finger that isn't completely dry, it will invariably turn in on itself. Dry your finger, then you have lint. (I usually wipe my finger on my shirt or on my other hand to try to avoid getting lint on my finger.) I've been wearing Acuvue Biofocal lenses for just a month or so, and I tore a lens this morning. That happened maybe twice in many years of wearing CooperVision flexible wear. If I hadn't been wearing contacts for 30-plus years, I would have thrown the Acuvue Bifocal lenses away in frustration long ago. I definitely wouldn't recommend these to first-time contact lens wearers or someone who isn't HIGHLY motivated to wear contacts. For people who do not require lenses that are thinner than normal, there must be other lenses that aren't so difficult to handle. (For those who need a thin lens and only single-vision correction, I highly recommend the CooperVision lenses mentioned above.)
10/12/09 by amigo: "They are nice at first, but be careful, Oasys may be harmful"Pros: none Cons: blurry vision, eye&head-aches Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 15 Months, 7 days/week, 13 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Renu (Bausch&Lomb), OptiFree, and others Replaces contacts every: 20 Days I have worn contacts since 1996, starting from Acuvue, then Acuvue 2, Acuvue Advance and finally Acuvue Oasys. I had no problems with Acuvue/Acuvue2. A few years ago I tried Advance which were not as comfortable as A2, so I was given a choice to switch to Oasys. At first Oasys were very comfortable and I was really happy with them. However after a month I noticed that they were not as good as my opt was saying. Since B&L changed its Renu product slightly, I decided to change Renu B&L solution to Optifree and finally found SoloCare and B-Lens solutions which were good. Although I have found the best solutions for Oasys (B-Lens, SoloCare also fits but with 8.8 BC Oasys only), I decided to switch back to Acuvue 2. When I was wearing Acuvue2 I didn't notice I have contact lenses in my eyes. Sometimes I forgot to take them out before going to bed or even wore a pair for 5 weeks and there were no problems. When using Acuvue Oasys I noticed that I should have an appropriate solution and before putting a fresh lense in your eye I should keep it in the solution for a few hours. Avoiding rubbing was also a good idea. Moreover, sleeping with Oasys was impossible.
9/23/09 by Aide: "Stay away from this one! "Pros: Light Cons: Eye irritation and discharge and tear up very easily Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 1 Year, 5 days/week, 12 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Opti-Free Replaces contacts every: n/a I have been wearing contact lenses for over 15 years, and never have I had such a bad experience as I had with these. My eyes got irritated, started discharging, and I pretty much had to take a two week "vacation," between the time my eyes cleared and the next pair. They tear up very easily, and although you clean them over and over again, they don't seem to ever be clean. I used a hidrogen peroxide cleanser, Clear Care, and it was a little cleaner, but not impressively awesome. Also, they build up debri so easily that almost every day my eyes felt as if I had an eyelash floating around my contact lense. Overall, I feel my eyesight has actually gotten worse with these.
9/04/09 by Ang: "Work great"Pros: last long Cons: eye liner sticks to the contacts Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 3 Years, 7 days/week, 15 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Target All in One Replaces contacts every: n/a I have been wearing Acuvue Advance for years and the only complaint I have is my eyeliner sticks to them. I find that they last long, about a month. I have been wearing contacts for 16 years and these are definatly more moist than the others I have tried. I never rub the lenses but place them in the solution every night, maybe this is why mine are lasting longer than the other reviewers.
7/09/09 by Alex: "Excellent Contacts; definately recommend "Pros: comfortable, contacts feel great, great clarity Cons: None Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 10 Years, 7 days/week, 12 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Renu Multipurpose Solution Replaces contacts every: 14 Days I have been using Acuvue 2 contacts for almost 11 years. I wouldn't trade them for anything. Last time I went to the eye doctor, he said they may be phased out though. Hopefully not because they are the best!
5/31/09 by Albert: "My review is referred to Acuvue Oasys"Pros: n/a Cons: n/a Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 0 Year, 7 days/week, 24 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Renu Plus Replaces contacts every: n/a Please ignore previous entry. My review has been sent for Acuvue Oasys
5/31/09 by ALDR: "Harmful to my eyes"Pros: At first they are comfortable Cons: Irritation, extremely red eyes after three days Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 0 Month, 7 days/week, 24 hours/day Cleaning solution used: ReNu Plus Replaces contacts every: 7 Days I've got the lens for an adaptation test from Acuvue2. Twice. At first they seemed to be comfortable but after the third day of use my eyes began to be irritated and extremely red. I had to disregard them and wear glasses for two days until my eyes recovered from irritation. I think it could be an allergic reaction to the materials the lens were made of.
4/30/09 by Angie: "LOVE THEM"Pros: INCREDIBLY CONFORTABLE Cons: NONE Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 2 Years, 7 days/week, 16 hours/day Cleaning solution used: OPTI FREE REPLENISH Replaces contacts every: 15 Days I have been wearing contacts for many years now and none of the brands that I've tried have been as comfortable as this. I love them and will not change brand. they never feel dry and I wear them ALL day long 7 days a week. I really don't use the re-wetting drops but of course everyone's eyes are different and the hygiene can have a tremendous effect on the over all comfortability. I did try the acuvue oasys for astigmatism becuse those are supposed to be even better but those fell too thick on my eyes.
3/24/09 by filly: "Comfy when brand new but overall they are too aggrovating "Pros: comfy when right out of package, you barely feel them Cons: itchy, dry eyes, rips EASYY, cloudy, blurred vision Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 1 Month, 6 days/week, 12 hours/day Cleaning solution used: ReNu MultiPlus Replaces contacts every: n/a I was given 2 types of contacts by my Dr to try. I am VERY new to contacts, my fitting was just on 3/19/09. The first pair (i forget the brand name lol) were thicker and easier for beginners to learn with they said but I felt them under my eye lids too much when I'd blink. so once I left the office I put the Oasys in. And wow, I thought these are what im buying, I dont care if they are more money!! but after a day of wearing them, I noticed they got super blurry, I had to blink over & over again to get them to focus enough to where I could tolerate it. I wash them every time I take them out but it seemed as though there was some kind of cloudyness over the right one, bright situations (computers, TV's, sunlight) made it more prominent and annoying!! I am super gentle with them and only use what my Dr recommended to me (ReNu Multiplus cleaning solution and Blink & Clean rewetting drops) but low and behold, one has ripped already and I've only gotten 3 days out of them, yes I said THREE days. I use Blink & Clean rewetting drops all the time and right before I take them out also. And talk about burning when they first went in.. I was not aware that they were silicone, I am allergic to some silicone's so I will not be buying these. I am not taking that chance with my eyes, ya only get 1 pair of those! It amazes me to read how many Dr's have recommended these to people while there's a possibility that you could be allergic to them. If they wish to recommend them, maybe they should also warn about possible allergic reactions. Makes you wonder how much the Dr's are getting paid to push these lenses. Im glad I tried the trial pair first before I got suckered into buying them. I am now waiting for the trial pair of acuvue 2s to come in. I've read lots of good things about them. too bad the oasys didn't work out for me, they are so amazingly comfy that first day!
3/21/09 by dsteinschneider: "About every 5th lens doesn't fit correctly"Pros: Very comfortable - clear vision - normally easy to handle Cons: I think there is a quality issue with Visitants Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 10 Years, 7 days/week, 10 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Renu Multiplus Replaces contacts every: 7 Days I've been wearing Ciba Focus Visitint 1-2 Week lenses for over 12 years. I'm researching online to see if other wearers are experiencing what I perceive as quality problems. Since 2007 in every batch of 72 lenses I buy about 1 in 10 will not fit right resulting in blurry vision. I know its not my eyes because I wear the same presciption in both eyes. If I put on a new pair where one lens fits correctly and the other doesn't and I swap lenses between my eyes the problem travels with the bad lense to my other eye. I know there are quality problems because since 2005 some visitint lenses tear at first handling (been wearing contact lenses for 30 years - I know how to handle them) Anyone who finds this post because they are having quality problems please post here.
1/05/09 by Bad New Year: "Bad start to the New Year!"Pros: Bad Cons: Nothing Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 8 Years, 7 days/week, 16 hours/day Replaces contacts every: 15 Days I have used the Acuvue brand since I was introduced to contacts back in high school. That was well over 15 years ago now and have never ever had a problem. My doctor asked me at my annual appointment how are the Acuvue 2 working out. I let her know they are just fine. She said a new product was introduced and I should try the item as it is working well for others. The Oasys was recommend to me as the next best product. I have had this recommendation before from my doctor and had much success with upgrading. I figured Acuvue has just come out with another great product. I ordered a year supply and did not even give it another thought. On Jan. 2 2009 the beginning of a New Year made me ask questions about this new product OASYS! I woke up with a swollen red eye, it just kept watering. The worst problem was it was hard to open my eye due to sensitivity to light. I get pink eye easy and thought maybe its that time of the year. I put my glasses on for the first time every to go to work. (I Hate Glasses) Soon very very severe pain developed as I was driving to work. After the pain developed the sight in my right eye went completely blurry. My doctor check my eye he said it is not pink eye and looked for unidentified objects in my eye. Again no items found in my eye. I am now working with an eye surgeon. He asked me to read the chart one eye at a time with my glasses on and I could not read the top line. I have a dry patch on my corina. How does this happen to a healthy young women. Do not buy these Contacts. I did not do my research I trusted my doctors recommedation but seeing all these responses it is clear you must do your own research. I only hope we caught this early.
10/09/08 by PS: "Allergies made me switch away from these"Pros: Comfortable Cons: Get stuck to your eye, flimsy Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 2 Years, 5 days/week, 17 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Opti-Free Express Replaces contacts every: 21 Days I've worn these contacts for a couple years now and every time I get around to allergy season my eyes go haywire with these contacts in. I'm constantly rubbing my eyes and taking them out to clean them. I can also echo the sentiment of others in saying the contacts get scratched and/or tear easily. At the end of they day they can be hard to take out because they get stuck to your eye. Ugh, my eye doctor suggested I try Acuvue Oaysis and though I've been using them for only a couple days, they def are more comfortable than the Acuvue Advance that cost almost double the price.
10/02/08 by Lens Man: "Acuvue Advance not advantageous"Pros: it is hard to find one: new technology Cons: Does not last long, more expensive, Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 8 Months, 7 days/week, 12 hours/day Replaces contacts every: n/a I am using Acuvue Advance only because my Doctor recommended to me they used new technology. With many complaints I refuse to wear them anymore. They barely make the 2 week deadline. The edges can dryout (even in the overnight case) and become very irritating. Before these "new technology" lenses, I wore Acuvue 2's with much more comfort. I could wear these (perfect)lenses for more than two weeks and not have an issue. Ususally a tear would force me to change. In one instance a pair of contacts lasted 6 months! New technology is not always better. Not only in eyewear but in Automobiles, software, and mechanics. Everybody's eyes are different and mine do not like Acuvue Advance.
9/12/08 by jd: "Worst Contacts I Have Ever Worn!!"Pros: None Cons: Causes Redness of the Eye, Itching, Sticky Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 18 Years, 7 days/week, 16 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Optifree Replenish Replaces contacts every: 30 Days This has got to be the worst set of contacts I have ever worn. My eye doctor recommended them for astigmastism, while they do a good job correcting my vision, they feel terrible. Even after putting in a new set they still are terrible, and I have never in the 18 years that I've been wearing contacts had lens's rip like these do!
8/25/08 by Ron: "Please ignore previous entry, it was meant for acuvue MOIST"Pros: na Cons: na Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 1 Year, 6 days/week, 10 hours/day Replaces contacts every: 1 Day sorry, wrong product. Below negative review is meant for acuvue MOIST. This one is actually great!
8/25/08 by Ron: "Feels irritating/blurry"Pros: none Cons: feels terrible, blurry vision (esp when getting dry) Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 1 Year, 6 days/week, 10 hours/day Replaces contacts every: 1 Day I have been a long time wearer of J&J contact lens (around 7 yrs+). I've used for the acuvue advance 1-day (not the moist one) for some time, and I find actually that was perfect. However, the place where I bought mine told me that J&J will soon be discontinuing the regular ones and replace then with the "Moist" one. So I bought the moist 1-day. Felt terrible since day 1. I thought I may have been the problem (I am a heavy wearer, 6-7 days a week is very common), so I stopped wearing them for a couple of days. I still get that terrible feeling after a couple of days. It feels like something is between my eyeball and the lens itself (I am starting to think that maybe the edges of the lens were not manufactured properly). The most interesting part of my story is that I found a pair of the regular 1-day acuvue lying around one day, I put them on and it felt great. So I am pretty sure there a problem with the "moist" lens itself. I am going to find if any other retailers sells the old regular 1-day, if not, I am gonna switch to another brand for sure. I am at work typing and my eyes hurts as I type. However, I do see positive comments on this page, so maybe it depends on the individual and maybe not a flaw on the lens itself. If you are planning to buy this, I would therefore recommend that you buy a smaller order and try it out first.
5/20/08 by SINDY: "ACUVUE 2 COLOR ENHANCER"Pros: color, moisture, Cons: gets blurry sometimes Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 1 Year, 5 days/week, 9 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Renew Replaces contacts every: 1 Month the color is much more natural than the opaques. I have to use the drops sometimes to clear them, but generally very good.
4/22/08 by david77571: "acuvue oasis....aaaah..they're ok"Pros: less resistence to tearing Cons: blurred vision Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 5 Years, 5 days/week, 10 hours/day Cleaning solution used: alcorn Replaces contacts every: 14 Days Yes, they keep more moisture on your lense, but blur vision more than acuvue 2 and 1. I'II go with the acuvue 2.
4/21/08 by acburton: "Worst Contacts Ever."Pros: best astigmatism correction. Cons: everything else: red, itchy eyes, protein build-up Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 4 Years, 7 days/week, 8 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Unisol 4 Saline Solution Replaces contacts every: 14 Days I wore Focus Toric for 7 years without ever having a problem, when i decided last August that i would try some of the newer brands for astigmatism to see if any of them would have stronger results at correcting my astigmatism. The assistant at the eye doctor had me try Purevision first, which i found uncomfortable because of the thickness. So next she put me into Acuvue Advance Astigmatism. She didn't take the time to tell me that those were dailies, when i was use to sleeping in my old brand of contacts for about 2 weeks at a time, so of course i slept in these for about a week or so when i noticed a gooey discharge coming from my eye. So I went to the eye doctor and he told me that wearing them overnight had caused me to get Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis. So i went about 2 1/2 months without wearing contacts and using steroid eye drops to get rid of that mess. When January came and the GPC was cleared up and i could finally wear contacts again, i started back with the Acuvues. At first I enjoyed them because the vision was alot clearer than my last brand and i barely noticed the blurs from the astigmatism, even though i had the inconvenience of taking them out every night. But after a few days i noticed that I could only wear them for a few hours at a time before my eyes would get bloodshot, itchy, uncomfortable, teary, and have constant protein build-up(even though the GPC was gone). For a while I thought this was due to my severe allergies, but after reading everyones reviews I'm glad to see that I'm not alone. So needless to say after suffering with these for months, thinking that it was just allergies that i couldn't control, i'm switching to another brand. It's so irritating to think that this many people have had problems with such a good brand like Acuvue. Anyway I'm thinking of trying Proclear Toric. The reviews and articles all have good critiques, especially for allergy sufferers like myself. So hopefully I'll have better luck this time.

Maybe you had eye irration because the military eye doctor measured your eyes wrong for your contact lenes, that can cause irratations, & lenes popping out, ect. Also clean your lenes with a brand name cleaner made for your type of contacts ie Renew/optifree ect. Don't be cheap when it come to your eye health. if you had problems with your contacts. You should have gone to Walmart or another optical department and paid less than $50 for a contact lenes exam and received a bunch of samples lenes to try. Your problem would have been solved. Your eye problems avoided and you could have purchased a different lens for about the same money. most colored lenes all run close in price. Note FOCUS lenes isn't a cheap generic brand. Next time read up on contact lenes an you would have saved yourself a lot of trouble.

1/27/08 by Charm: "!!!SWITCH YOUR SOLUTION!!!"Pros: Moist eyes all day, MORE oxygen, Thin, Can sleep in them Cons: The price, Does not work well w/ multipurpose solutions Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 1 Year, 5 days/week, 10 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Clear Care (I used to use Optifree Replenish) Replaces contacts every: 14 Days A few months ago, I started having problems with my Acuvue 2's. I could not wear them often because they dried out my eyes so much! I stuck to my glasses for a few months, then could only wear them for 8 hours before I could no longer tolerate them for weeks. Up close, my eyes looked like golf balls and when I woke up in the morning they were always so dry. They were difficult to take out as well (They would not slide off, it felt like they were stuck to my eye at times) My sister who wore them (Acuvue 2's) got a severe eye infection and was placed on Vigamox for a few weeks. After she got better the doc prescribed her some Oasys and she is doing better now. I told our doctor of my dry eye issues and after warning me of the price she fitted me with some oasys! Oh what relief! When I got home I read these reviews and was shocked at the low ratings! It appeared to me that the longer you wore these, the more prone to infection you would become! I became worried because the Hydraclear in these contacts were a godsend to me! But after my week trial I started to notice that they became increasingly less comfortable to wear, but they were still very moist. Oh my god, I thought, I'm gonna end up with an eye infection like all these people! So I did my research and discovered that my OPTIFREE Replenish was contributing to the decreased comfort! I found Clear Care (a preservative FREE, hydrogen peroxide solution)to be the, well, solution to my problems. It turns out that multipurpose solutions do NOT clean lenses that effectively, (especially, it turns out, RENU and several "no rub" generic brands). Protein will continue to build up on the lenses, and EVENTUALLY MANY PEOPLE WILL DEVELOP SENSITIVITIES TO THE PRESERVATIVES IN MULTIPURPOSE SOLUTIONS. I suggest going onto http://www.staininggrid.com/ to see how your current solution interacts with your type of contacts. As for changing these every 2 weeks, I can now wear them up to twice as long! That means these are well worth the money I pay for them.

I tried 7 different kinds with these seeming to be the best with the acuvue2 a close second. The problem I'm having is that within the same box the quality seems to vary. some I can wear 3-4 weeks, some only 2. one that I just put in seems to be the wrong prescription. all within the same box. They are not tolerent of crying or smokey environments, as that significantly shortens their life span. My last contacts I used optifree express and Alcon Opti-Free Supra Clens Contact Lens Cleanser as a booster. I can't use the supra with these, I think it absorbs it too much.

11/30/07 by Lens Chic: "Another Cautionary Tale About Acuvue Oasys"Pros: None Cons: Caused corneal abrasions Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 4 Months, 7 days/week, 10 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Opti Free Replenish Replaces contacts every: 7 Days During the first two months of wearing Oasys, my eyes felt wonderful. I could hardly feel the contacts, and my eyes were breathing normally without redness. I did not wear these contacts overnight, and I cleaned them properly. During the third month of wearing them, my experience turned for the worst. After an hour or so of wearing them, my eyes became dry and scratchy. I figured I needed to replace the contacts or something else was to blame not the contacts themselves. My replacement pairs seemed to correct the situation for two weeks or so, until one time my right eye became extremely bloodshot and painful. My optometrist diagnosed me as having corneal abrasions on both eyes; the right was in worse shape. He guessed that I had slight dry eyes and didn't know it. I have never had a problem with or injury to my eyes until I wore Oasys. I was a gas permeable lense wearer for 14 years until I switched at the advice of my new optometrist. I wish I would have stayed with "old faithful". My eye doctor had me use OTC eyedrops and then go back to perms; however, I was unable to wear them because my abrasions were still present. Next, I saw an ophthalmologist who said a virus inflamed my corneas and caused my abrasions. This made no sense to me because I had not suffered from a respiratory cold while wearing Oasys, nor had a cold at the appointment. I tried to convey my suspicion about Oasys being at fault, but he dismissed my opinon immediately without listening at all to my concerns. He had me continue using OTC eyedrops (perservative free) and eye ointment at night, which I had started using before seeing him. I am not going back to him. My eyedrop and ointment regiment is healing my corneas slowly but surely. I have to wait 6 to 8 months before I wear contacts. Needless to say, I am never wearing Oasys again and strongly urge others to read my review and others on this website carefully. Something is not right about Oasys contacts, and my experience and others like mine are proving this true with each negative review.

11/27/07 by Little Bit: "Completely unhappy"Pros: Seemed to be better then previous Accuvue Lens Cons: Currently unable to wear any contacts Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 2 Months, 6 days/week, 14 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Opti Free Replaces contacts every: 15 Days I have worn contacts for about 15 years. I have never sleeped in lenses so I have always used a daily wear lens. I think I had one infection since I have worn contacts, but never really had major problems. Historically stuck with B & L lenses after "drying" out problems with Acuvue. When I went for my exam they definetly pushed this product. I originally was not convinced the product was for me, especially since I had minor problems with Accuvue lenses in the past. However, they agreed to give me a couple of trial pair to see how I would like them before I ordered anything. I was pleasantly surprised. No problems what so ever for about two months. Then it was all down hill. My eyes were constantly itchy and had kind of a drying feeling. Resembling the same type of discomfort if you don't enzyme your lenses (protein build up). I also had gunk build up in the corner of my eyes throughout the day. Before even going to the doctor I took it upon myself to give myself a break from the lenses all together for a couple of days. Since I have never been a full time glass wearer, it was tough. My eyes felt fine, so I tried a fresh pair of Oasys after about three days. It felt like I dipped them in sand and then put them in my eyes. Obviously I was unable to get out of the bathroom with them in. I Went back to the doctor he said I had some type of allergic reaction. He gave me eye drops and said I should not wear contacts for two weeks. I did exactly what he said. When I went back, he said I still had what he considered signs of a reaction (bumps on the underside of my eyelids). He said it may be a problem I have to deal with the rest of my life. He also mentioned I may not be able to wear contacts and the reaction could be to the silicone product itself. I never imagined that switching would put me in a position to were I would not be able to use contacts. I have been wearing glasses for over a month now. I plan on obtaining another opinion. Hopefully I can wear contacts again, but it will not be Oasys.
8/01/07 by tigergem: "I am disappointed"Pros: I do not have any Cons: My vision is very blury Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 8 Months, 7 days/week, 10 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Opti-Free Replenish Replaces contacts every: 21 Days I have worn contacts for 13 years. I started with Acuvue eventually changed to Acuvue 2 (A2) and now I am wearing Acuvue Advance. I have never had issues with my contacts or my vision. When I initially started wearing the Acuvue Advance (AA) I could not feel an immediate difference. Eventually my eyes adjusted to the AA and I thought my eyes liked them better then the A2, however lately my vision has been bothering me. Over the last few months I noticed that I do not see clearly out of the AA. When I take them out at night my eyes are very irritated. They are extremely dry and hurt. Someone suggested I change my contact solution because their doctor told them that the silicone lens needed a special kind of solution. So I changed and the new solution did not help. It did not make it better or worse. I have begun wearing my glasses almost everyday, because I do not have the vision problems when I wear them. I tried to change back to the A2, but my eyes were really irritated. It seems like my eyes have adjusted to the feel of the AA, so I am probably going to have to slowly train my eyes back to the A2. Reading the review on this website helped me to realize that I am not the only one experiencing these problems. I am very happy to know that I am not alone!
7/28/07 by Muneca: "Works for me"Pros: They are comfortable and have a realistic look Cons: None Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 2 Years, 7 days/week, 15 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Aquify Replaces contacts every: 1 Month Dont know what everyone elses problems are, doctors do fit you before you waste money on the box so for those who supposedly been wearing them for 8 years and what not...why dont you try a different lens? When I first got the contacts yes I did see color but after my eyes got used to it I saw perfectly and I always get compliments. My eyes are kinda chinky almond shaped and my skin is coffee colored and green or grey look fantastic on me = ). Anyone who has problems with these have not been fitted correctly or just dont know what they are doing. But overall I highly recommend these lenses.
7/03/07 by PlantTrees: "I picked a great time to get into contacts"Pros: Like having my natural vision back Cons: Can be hard to remove (I'm new at this, though) Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 0 Year, 7 days/week, 12 hours/day Cleaning solution used: Alcon Opti-Free Express Replaces contacts every: 30 Days After reading so many negative reviews here I felt I had to weigh in with my own experience, even though I'm completely new to contacts and have no experience with any other brands. In fact I'm still wearing my trial pair, and will probably aim for my optometrist's recommended replacement schedule of 25-30 days. After thinking more and more often about getting contacts I finally went for it recently and was fitted with a pair of O2 Optix. As for an adjustment period, I could hardly tell they were there as I walked home from my fitting. Let's say 15 minutes, then. That felt pretty good to me. I have slight astigmatism in both eyes so I'm not quite as crisp *most of the time* as with my specs (I now notice subtle changes throughout the day that I suspect I was oblivious to before). In all, very natural feeling with no sense of anything being in or on my eye. No tiredness at all at the end of the day - it's more a question of 'well, I suppose I ought to take them out now.' I cycle quite a bit and I find that the wind irritates and dries my eyes more now than before. It was a problem anyway though and I've now solved it with a pair of UVEX 'Fury' goggles - recommended for anyone with a similar issue who's not happy with the coverage of cycling-specific sunglasses. I was thinking that I'd wear contacts part of the time, specs part of the time but for an 'investment' of 2 minutes morning and night it has hardly seemed worthwhile to wear the specs. I am really wowed by this product and am so glad I didn't have to suffer through earlier generations of contact lens. These lenses definitely work well for me.
6/27/07 by alicatmeowmeow: "owie"Pros: comfy Cons: blindness Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 1 Month, 7 days/week, 14 hours/day Cleaning solution used: a combo of sea salt, saliva, and california tap water Replaces contacts every: 15 Days "These contacts remind me of the time I had baby lava rocks in my eyes." I remove my contacts after awaking in massive eye pain from a very tiny and unintentional wine nap at three in the morning. Moments later... my eyeballs are literally forcing sleeping pills down my throat in attempt to never see the light of day again. Half hour goes by. Verdict? "Eye infection." Sexy. It's fatal. The overdose totally contributes. But, medical attention is sought! I'm a classified survivor. Yep. I can voluntarily open AND CLOSE both eyes. Am I more blind than before? You bet. Would I recommend? Depends on who to. (oh yeah...)
3/26/07 by Ron: "Almost Perfect"Pros: Hassle Free Comfort, (mostly) Cons: Occasional Bad Lens Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 5 Years, 7 days/week, 24 hours/day Cleaning solution used: ClearCare Replaces contacts every: 45 Days Been waring contacts for 20 years, nothing else can touch these lenses. They are for me, more comfortable than no contacts at all, and my eyes don't get tired like they did with all lenses I tried previously. They seem to get more comfortable with wear, which leads to a temptation to push them past the recommended replacement interval. The problem with quality control mentioned by eyesy also tends to encourage you to push the replacement interval - when you get a good lens you don't want to change. Unfortunately, the quality control issue with these lenses is very real in my experience, and the most serious problem with these lenses. In the 5+ years I've used these lenses, I'd say 10% have been bad and lately it seems to have gotten worse (or maybe I just got a bad batch?) 25% bad. Bad lenses are very frustrating. Usually it's not immediately obvious, but doesn't feel quite right when first inserted. But what starts out as a minor irritation slowly (over several hours)gets worse and worse until eventually it starts to get painful. So then I'll try taking out the lenses and rinsing them with saline, because when I have a problem with lenses that I've been wearing for a while this usually works. But when I've had problems with a new lens, rinsing it has never worked, because the problem is the lens, not a particle. I've also tried doing a cleaning (ClearCare Hydrogen Peroxide cleaner) and switching the lenses (L/R, I use the same prescription) and sure enough the problem follows the lens. I haven't had any problem getting bad lenses replaced, but it's a hassle. Despite the QC issue, this is still the best lens out there IMO. In fact, if these weren't available, I'd probably go with LASIK rather than a different lens.
2/13/07 by Hugh: "My solution was in the solution"Pros: Most comfortable I've ever had Cons: Harder to take out Has been wearing 1-Day Acuvue 30 pack: 2 Years, 7 days/week, 16 hours/day Replaces contacts every: 15 Days I'm writing this in response to those reviewers who complained about scratchiness and redness after a couple of days - I've had the same experience, but now its not a problem, and I get at least two weeks wear out of my contacts. Some background: I'm a Canadian who lived in the US from 2000-2005. I was fitted with Acuvue Advance around 2004 (to be honest, I forget the exact date). I'd been on Acuvue 2 before for at least a couple of years. Never had any problems with Acuvue Advance until over a year later. In 2005 I moved back to Canada. About six months later, I ran out of both contact lens and solution. I ordered more lens from my local optometrist, and bought more solution locally. The solution I'd been using in the US was not available in Canada. After starting on the new lens and the new solution, after a few days, I experienced a huge amount of irritation. Film would build up on the lens, and some kind of strange buildup or roughness would accumulate on the edges of the lens. I had to replace the lens after about 5 days. I tried things I'd never had to bother with before - rubbing the lens with the solution, protein removers, different brands of solution. The best I could do was maybe get a week out of the lens before they started to bug the heck out of me, and I figured that was the way it was going to be from now on. After all, my lens hadn't changed, maybe my eyes had changed or aged or whatever. Anyway, I later had an opportunity to travel in the US, and while there, I loaded up on my old brand of lens solution. After getting that back into my lens routine, ALL of my problems went away. I now get 15 days out of my lens quite comfortably, and could go longer if I wanted to. What brand of solution made my problems go away, you may ask? Equate sterile multi-purpose solution (no rub), available at Walmart, probably the cheapest one on the market.

I was using Acuvue II contact lens for many years and never had a problem. I thought I would try the Acuvue Oasys because I saw a commercial and asked my doctor about them. For the first month they seemed to be working fine but didnt really notice much differnce than my old contacts. For the past couple months I have been noticing dryness, itchiness, blurriness, and distorted vision especially at the end of the day. Forget about sleeping with these contacts in! I never had a problem with my Acuvue II's. I could even sleep with them in and never have problem. I can't wait to get home from work to take these contacts out. They are that uncomfortable. I can't wait to be done with the rest of the box so I get my Acuvue II's.

I had tried soft torics 10 years ago but the vision (esspecially night) was poor and could not be improved. My last RGP lenses really flattened out my astimatism so it took a month of regular soft lenses to (Frequency 55's and PureVision) to let the corneas return to their normal shape. I find the Frequency 55's both -- toric and not -- extremely comfortable, more so than the PureVision. I am not aware when they are in even after a full day of wear. My RGP's were extremely comfortable but if I thought about it, I knew they were in. The vision is also very good and stable. Though it has taken a couple of tries to zero in the perscription. If your coming out of rigid lenes keep this in mind. My eye doctor fortunately has the patience to work with me. The only "problem" I have had was after I closed my eyes for 5 or 6 minutes. A couple of minutes after that I noticed one lens seemed dry and I almost blinked it out. A drop of rewetting solution fixed that. My doctor does not recommend overnight wear, but I am hoping she'll clear me for an occaisional nap. |
